Possibly
the first metal used by humans, gold was valued for
ornaments, and magical powers were attributed to it.
It is naturally a soft, light yellow to vivid
yellow corrosion-resistant metal.
It won't tarnish, rust, or corrode, and though
it's very strong, it is also the most malleable of all
metals. By
definition, pure gold is 24 carats, and thus a 75% gold
alloy is 18 carats.
Chief producers are South Africa, the U.S.,
Russia, Australia, and Canada.

Platinum
is a bright, silver-white color precious metal.
Platinum is considered to be the most secure
metal for gem settings because of its resistance to
damage from corrosion, heat and chemical attack.
Platinum
is the purest precious metal with an alloy of 90 percent
or higher. Look for a stamp of 950 Plat or 900Pt on
platinum respectively indicating 95 or 90 percent
purity. Rhodium, part of the platinum family, is a metal
often used to plate silver, white gold and platinum to
produce a brighter, harder finish.
Like white gold, it
makes very white diamonds appear bright.

It
is a smooth, lustrous, variously colored "organic
gem" material formed when an irritant, such as
sand or a parasite, becomes lodged in the shell of an
oyster. Pearl,
one of the most precious types of jewelry, has been
harvested and worn for more than 4,000 years, symbolizing
purity, virtue and modesty.
